It was thumbs-up for portable toilets at the Municipal Recreation Complex but thumbs-down for a drinking fountain during this week’s Borough Council session.

A resolution approving a lease agreement for a portable toilet at the municipal field was approved during the council’s Tuesday session. Since the complex is adjacent to the borough high school and
middle school, the Board of Education must also approve the resolution.

“I am sure we will have their approval because it’s something that they desperately need,” said council president Elsie Foster-Dublin, adding that she expected a resolution by early next week.

Pending the school board’s approval, the borough will lease the toilet from Mr.John, a portable toilet supplier based in Keasbey, for $190 a month.

The council also considered authorizing the installation of a drinking fountain for the complex, but decided that possible sanitation issues made it impractical.

Dublin suggested that vendors be allowed to sell water at the park. “It serves a double purpose,” she said. “It boosts business and takes care of people’s thirst — sounds perfect.”
